Act CXXXIX of 2013 on the National Bank of Hungary on the Financial Supervision of the Republic of Hungary stipulates the supervision of the financial intermediary system and the protection of the interests of the users of financial services.
In the framework of this activity, the MNB examines domestic and international market processes, monitors and controls the lawful operation of institutions, communication channels and their content, evaluates news on financial institutions and service providers through general press monitoring, and analyzes information received from statutory reporting.
The MNB conducts proactive financial consumer protection awareness activities, professional customer service, and cooperates with partner institutions and civil and commercial-service providers to reduce the risk of misunderstandings and damage caused by misguided consumer decisions.
Useful financial information in everyday life can be found in the Financial Navigator briefing. The Financial Navigator Toolkit consists of a financial consumer protection website, a series of thematic booklets, educational and one-minute short films, product selection and conscious decision-making applications, and mobile applications.
In addition to providing sound financial decision-making information, the MNB also assists in handling complainant situations. The customer service located on Krisztina Boulevard in Budapest is available in person, by telephone and in writing, while consumers away from the capital can contact experts in the Financial Navigator Advisory Bureau Network working with the MNB in many rural cities.
